He will be playing in his maiden World Cup this year while his team Afghanistan will be playing their second. But leggie Rashid Khan has already been projected among those players who can set the upcoming World Cup ablaze. The 20-year-old bowler also knows how significant he is for Afghanistan at the showpiece event and after a decent Indian Premier League (IPL), he is now looking forward to making a memorable summer in England.

Rashid, who is ranked the No.1 bowler in T20Is and No.1 all-rounder in ODIs and No.3 bowler in ODIs, recently gave an interview to Sportstar in which he reflected on a number of issues, including the rise of Afghanistan cricket.

The bowler, who is the fastest to take 100 wickets in ODIs (44 matches), was asked about his experience of bowling at India captain Virat Kohli and how a spinner should bowl in English conditions. Rashid has dismissed Kohli in the IPL and will the two will renew their rivalry at the World Cup on June 22 when India play Afghanistan in Southampton.

“There is no shot that he [Kohli] can’t play and I haven’t seen a weak point as such. He has been the most consistent batsman in the last few years. Being a spinner, I just need to ensure that every delivery is a good one, that’s the only plan you can have against him,” Rashid was quoted as saying in the interview.

The young bowler also expressed his determination when he said that Afghanistan was not just looking forward to participating in the World Cup but also make it count. The Afghans, who made their debut in World Cup in 2015 and won one game against Scotland, won the qualifiers in Zimbabwe last year defeating the West Indies. This year, they kick off their campaign against defending champions Australia in Bristol on June 2.

On the question of Afghanistan choosing a new captain in Gulbadin Naib in place of Asghar Afghan and him criticising it along with former captain Mohammad Nabi, Rashid said it is not his job to interfere in the board’s decision and spoke only over the time of making the changes.
