With the ongoing cricket World Cup turning out to be the most rain-affected in history, fans of the game are not impressed. Reactions – funny and angry – have poured in from all quarters and even celebrities have not shied away from taking funny digs at the tournament. Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, for instance, tweeted recently saying that the World Cup 2019 should be shifted to India for the country requires rain and the fortunes could come with the mega event.

After Big B, it is Rishi

After Big B, another veteran actor has taken a dig at the rain-interrupted tournament’s organisers – the International Cricket Council (ICC). The 66-year-old actor, who recently overcame the deadly threat of cancer after prolonged treatment in the US, took to Twitter to publish a picture of a golden trophy in the shape of a reverse umbrella and called the new design of the premier trophy. As many as four crucial games have been either ended without a result or abandoned because of the weather gods and the list hasn’t ended for sure.

The ICC has come under a backlash for not keeping reserve days for the matches as it said it is challenging to do so because of logistical reasons. Reserve days have only been kept from semi-final onwards. The matches that have got washed out till now are Pakistan-Sri Lanka, Bangladesh-Sri Lanka, West Indies-South Africa and India-New Zealand. Even the top draw of the tournament – the India-Pakistan derby at Old Trafford on Sunday – is under considerable threat.

Rishi Kapoor, a member of Bollywood’s famous Kapoor family, is always known for his straightforward takes on Twitter. A few months ago, Rishi had even taken a dig at the members of the Indian World Cup squad asking how did they sport facial hairs. It may be noted here that Rishi hasn’t sported in his life, whether in reel or real life.

Coming back to the rain factor in the World Cup, the wash-outs could leave a situation at the end where teams are separated narrowly and the race for the semi-final spots coming down to the net run-rate. Certainly, it is not the best way out for those who prepared four years to give their best.
