After the debacle of the recently concluded Asia Cup T20 in Bangladesh, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a change in the squad for the World T20 in India. Opener Khurram Manzoor has been dropped while the aggressive Ahmed Shehzad has been called up to replace him.

Shehzad was not originally picked in the squad of 15 for the World T20, which came as a shock to many of the Pakistan cricket supporters. Shehzad was not picked for the Asia Cup T20 also, where Manzoor played in his place as an opener. But after scoring just 11 runs in 3 innings in the tournament, the selectors seemed to have lost faith in him and have gone back to Shehzad.

Ahmad Shehzad has played 40 T20Is for Pakistan and has scored 941 runs along with a century in the format. He is the only Pakistani to have scored a T20 international century and was in tremendous form during the recently held Pakistan Super League (PSL).  This might have been a catalyst in selectors recalling Shehzad in the squad.

The other opening option in the squad is Khalid Latif from Karachi, who last played for Pakistan in 2012 against Sri Lanka. The 30-year-old Latif is one of the most destructive opening batsmen in Pakistan’s domestic circuit and will bolster the teams hope in the tournament that they have won in 2009.

Pakistan is placed in group 2 of the Super 10 league and have Australia, New Zealand and hosts India in the same group along with Qualifier 1. They will start their campaign on March 16 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and will have the big money match against rivals India on March 19 at Dharamshala.
