Afghanistan skipper Asghar Stanikzai said: ‘We wanted to bat first as well. Just one change for us. Shafiqullah replaces Dawlat Zadran. We will look to bowl well and defend them to a good score, we just want to play good cricket, we will give our best.’
On winning the toss Morgan said: ‘We will bat first. The conditions look good, not as good as Wankhede, might be a bit slow, we need to get a good score and defend it. We have trained well over the last couple of days, need to make the most of the training schedule. Two changes, Alex Hales has a stiff back, he’s replaced by James Vince. Liam Plunkett comes in for Reece Topley. We will not take this match lightly, not thinking about the net run-rate.’
England won the toss and Eoin Morgan has decided to bat first.
During the pitch report Nasser Hussain said ‘There is some grass on the surface, the new ball will go through well, there are a few cracks as well and it will widen as the sun beats down on it. The spinners will then come into play, it’s not a belter, but it’s a good cricket pitch’
In the 24th match of the ICC World T20 2016 the energetic Afghanistan take on aggressive England at the Firoz Shah Kotla stadium in New Delhi.
