A couple of weeks before the commencement of the England vs India Test series, the visitors have been jolted by the injury updates from Wriddhiman Saha. The 33-year old succeeded MS Dhoni as the wicketkeeper-batsman in Tests following the latter’s retirement and has been the custodian for Virat Kohli for the best part of three years. Boasting of tremendous batsmanship and technique, Saha’s miss for the series has been something of a jolt, to say the least.

While his absence from the squad has indeed been covered up by the erstwhile Dinesh Karthik, it would be safe to say that the extent of Saha’s injury may not really be what most expected. A senior BCCI official went so far ahead as to state that the physio at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore

‘Rehab has been a complete goof-up’

The official went on to add that the extent of Saha’s injury may well be a lot more than it is at the moment. He also added that Saha will require a surgery to his shoulder, something that will ensure that he is out of action for longer than usual.

“Wriddhiman’s rehabilitation has been a complete goof up. The NCA physio has bungled it big time. Now only a surgery can put him back on track. Once he is done with surgery, he will not touch the bat for at least two months and then rehab will start,” a senior BCCI official told as quoted by The Field on Thursday.

The extent of Saha’s injury may well witness the 33-year old miss a considerable amount of cricket including the Test series down under. This may very well come as welcome news for Dinesh Karthik who seems as though he will get an extended run in the Test side.
