WWC 2017, Final: England v India – Statistical Highlights

England lifted the Women’s World Cup title after defeating India by 9 runs in a dramatic final at the Lord’s. Indians came back well after the first 30 overs to restrict the home side to a total of 228/7 who looked well set for a 250+ total after electing to bat. India in their reply were well on course of winning the title as they had 7 wickets in hand and were just 38 runs away from the win with 7.2 overs to play; thereafter they kept losing wickets and were bowled out for 219 with another 8 balls to be spare. Here we look at all the stats and records created during the game. 1 – Anya Shrubole became the first player to take a 6-wicket haul in World Cup final (Men’s or Women’s). There were two 5-wicket hauls in Men’s CWC and only one 4-fer in Women’s CWC before. 4 – Number of World Cup titles in Women’s cricket for England. Three of those came when they were hosting the tournament: 1973, 1993 and 2017. 6/45 – Anya Shrubsole’s bowling figures of 6/45 are the 2nd best for England in Women’s ODI cricket. Jo Chamberlain’s 7 wickets for 8 runs in 1991 against Pakistan are the best for England in Women’s ODIs. 28 – Runs India Women scored for losing their last 7 wickets; their lowest in an ODI in 15 years. The last time India Women aggregated 28 or fewer runs for their last 7 wickets in an ODI was in 2002 vs New Zealand (18 runs). 36 – Wickets Jhulan Goswami has picked up in the Women’s World Cup so far; the joint 3rd most by any player in the tournament history. Lyn Fullston picked up 39 wickets which are the most for any player in WWC. 86 – Punam Raut’s 86 is the 3rd highest individual score in a Women’s World Cup final. Only Karen Rolton’s 107* in 2005 and Belinda Clark’s 91 in 2000 score more than Raut. 228/7 – England’s total of 228/7 is the 2nd highest total in a Women’s World Cup final. Australia’s total of 259/7 in 2013 WWC final against Windies. 409 – Runs Mithali Raj has scored in this tournament; the 3rd player to score over 400 runs as a captain in a single edition of Women’s World Cup. Belinda Clark in 1997 and Suzie Bates in 2013 had scored 400+ runs as captains in a WWC edition. 410 – Runs Tammy Beaumont has aggregated in this tournament; the joint 5th most and the most for England in a single edition of Women’s World Cup. Janette Brittin also scored 410 runs for England in 1993 edition.
