Not every day do you score 147 and end up as the 2nd highest run-scorer for the team in a 50-over game but England’s Sarah Taylor had that fate today. She recorded her highest ODI score while batting against Pakistan in the Women’s World Cup match but Tammy Beaumont bettered her partner by just 1 run scoring 148. Thus they recorded the first ever instance in Women’s cricket where two players scored more than 140 in the same ODI innings.

Had both reached their 150s, it could have been the third instance ODIs including both Men’s and Women’s cricket where two players scored 150s in the same ODI innings. In fact, only two such instances have been recorded in Men’s cricket. Just a week ago, the first ever instance of two players scoring 150+ in the same Women’s ODI was recorded when Chamari Atapattu blasted 178* while Meg Lanning replied with 152*.

Sarah Taylor’s 147 is now the highest 2nd best score in a Women’s ODI innings. The previous highest 2nd best score in an ODI innings in Women’s cricket was 138 by Janette Brittin as Barbara Daniels outscored her with 142 during a World Cup match vs Pakistan in 1997.

Interestingly, Sarah’s previous highest ODI score of 129 vs South Africa in 2008 also turned out to be the 2nd highest in the England’s innings as Caroline Atkins scored 145 in that match. Overall this was the 4th instance of two players scoring 125 and more in an innings in Women’s ODIs out of which, three are by England team.

In Men’s ODI cricket, there are 5 instances of two batsmen scoring 140 and more in the same innings out of which only twice both players in the innings ended up crossing the 150-run mark. The first such instance was recorded by India’s Sachin Tendulkar (186*) and Rahul Dravid (153) in 1999 against New Zealand while the second and the last one was when Brendon McCullum (166) and Xavier Marshall (161) did that for New Zealand against Ireland in 2008.
