Mumbai Indians’ young debutant Hrithik Shokeen impressed one and all with his bowling skills when he made his way into the team against the Chennai Super Kings. He has added Shaun Pollock and Lisa Sthalekar to the list as the two were awestruck looking at him perform in his debut game against CSK.

Mumbai had made some changes to their combination and had brought in 22-year-old Shokeen into the side and he showcased an impressive spell, registering 0/23 in four overs in his first-ever IPL outing. After a remarkable spell, he retained his place in the team for MI’s next game against the Lucknow Super Giants.

Former Proteas skipper Pollock shared his views on the youngster and lauded Mumbai Indians for finding yet another gem. “I was impressed with what I saw. I think he would have to have a few more variations there in his spell. He bowled a lot of dot balls (in the game against CSK) and it was almost fantastic,” he told Cricbuzz.

“He has to be accurate because if he isn’t, he will be put under a lot of pressure. You can’t help but give him another go because he was impressive. He was bowling to some class players at the crease and guys who were already set in the innings. He held his own so no surprise they (Mumbai Indians) are sticking with him,” Pollock added.

Mumbai has looked at him saying ‘this kid has got a lot to offer’: Lisa Sthalekar

Former cricketer and captain of Australia’s women’s team, Sthalekar, also shared her thoughts on the youngster’s spell against CSK. “It’s quite amazing isn’t it? Because the last time he really played any professional cricket was 2019. He was part of the Under-19 a few years ago, India Under-23s, India Emerging, and he hasn’t got a contract as well, so obviously, Mumbai has looked at him, saying ‘this kid has got a lot to offer’,” she said.

“He must have impressed them in the nets because the other player that I saw coming in, because MI doesn’t have Rahul Chahar, was Mayank Markande. I thought that he might be an option to play as a leg-spinner and he has had success in the IPL before. But Shokeen must be bowling really well in the nets, and he also bowled well in his first game (versus CSK),” she concluded.
