Indian wonder-kid Prithvi Shaw has taken great strides in his cricketing career and has shown immense promise to develop into one of the greatest cricketers in the world. Shaw first came into the fray when he blasted a record 546 runs off 330 balls while playing for Rizvi Springfield in the Harris Shield, a tournament that made Sachin Tendulkar famous in 1988 for his record-breaking partnership with Vinod Kambli. And now the 17-year-old has registered four centuries from five first-class games.

Recently, Prithvi caught the eyes of the Twitterati when he posted a picture with his father and captioned it with an emotional message. The tweet read, “A dad is someone who holds u when u cry, scolds u whn u break d rules, shines with pride when u succeed & has faith in u when u fail #thankudad.”

In 2010, the Mumbai lad was offered a contract worth Rs. 3,00,000 by a sports management company owned by former India cricketer Nilesh Kulkarni, giving the youngster a chance to live his dream.

In 2013, Shaw was invited by Gloucestershire to train with the team, and while he did not get to play with the second XI being an overseas player, he played in the friendlies and made his mark. He later played for Cleethorpes in the Yorkshire ECB County Premier League.

Earlier this year, he made his first-class debut for Mumbai, against Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy semis. Unmindful of all the hype, he scored a century in the second innings, earning the Man of the Match award. Following that, Shaw made his Duleep Trophy debut for India Red, at 17 years and 320 days, becoming the second youngest to score a century in the tournament after Tendulkar.

Although Shaw was excluded from the U19 Asia Cup squad in order for him to represent Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, the decision certainly seems to have paid rich dividends for now.
