Younis Khan opens up on his alleged spat with Hasan Ali

Younis Khan, the former Pakistan cricketer, resigned as the batting coach of the national team a few days ago. On June 22, the veteran stepped down from his position though he was appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a two-year deal, which was to end after the conclusion of the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup.

Though neither Younis nor the PCB gave reasons for the former’s resignation, rumours said that Khan resigned after an alleged spat with fast bowler Hasan Ali. Reports said that the two players had a heated argument during Pakistan’s tour of South Africa earlier this year.

It was learned that Ali had refused to take an ice bath as suggested by Younis and thereafter, the players and other support staff had to intervene to calm them down. In the meantime, Younis has opened up on the matter and said that the pacer had apologised to him.

“Hasan Ali apologised to me, and I had forgiven him. To play up the Hasan Ali incident (and use it) as a possible reason for my resignation comes as a surprise to me,” Younis was quoted as saying by Bol News.

Pakistan won’t be having a batting coach for their tour of the United Kingdom from June 25 to July 20 where they will play three ODIs and as many T20Is. The team is then scheduled to travel to the West Indies for two Tests and five T20Is.

“Pakistan men’s national cricket team will travel to the United Kingdom without a batting coach, while the decision to appoint Younis Khan’s replacement for the West Indies tour will be made in due course,” a PCB statement said.

After Younis resigned, Wasim Khan, the Chief Executive of the PCB, was highly disappointed. He was dejected to lose a coach of the stature and experience of Younis.

“Following a series of discussions, we both have reluctantly but mutually and amicably agreed that it was time to move in different directions,” Wasim Khan mentioned.

“…hope he will remain available to assist the PCB by sharing his vast knowledge with the emerging cricketers,” he added.

Younis remains as Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in Test cricket and was appointed as their batting coach last year in November.
