Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has warned the Australian batsmen of playing spin in conditions on their upcoming tour of India. Much has been made of Australia’s upcoming tour given the turning tracks as well as India’s form in recent times as well. England’s 4-0 drubbing at the hands of the Indians is evidence enough that the subcontinent is a tough place to travel.

However, Pietersen has given them a bit of hope given the fact that they might have a chance if they learn to play spin quick. If they can play spin quick and practice it before touring, they will not have the kind of problems the Brits faced on their tour as well.

“You’ve got to learn to play spin quick,” he told cricket.com.au in a one-on-one interview last November.

“Learn to play spin very quick. If you can’t play spin, don’t even go. When you get there (India) you’ve got to practice it, and you can actually practice it here – I can do spinning drills in Australia, I did them … on a South African wicket to make sure that my feet were going and picking length.

Pietersen also went on to add that he believed that it was not required that a spinning wicket was prepared in Australia to help them acclimatize to the conditions as well. He also stated that it was his view that it was all about picking lengths and the turn more than anything else.

“You can, you don’t need to be on a spinning wicket to play spin properly or practice spin, you can be on any type of wicket. It’s about picking the length, and picking lines and getting your feet going.”
