The Indian cricket board has not been able to pay the insurance money of some of the senior cricketers till date though the board has been talking about the insurance policy of its players for quite a time now. Indian left-handed batsman Yuvraj Singh and bowler Ashish Nehra, both players who play for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League are contracted players of the Indian team.

But both the talented cricketers had to miss the 9th season of the Indian Premier League due to injuries and are still waiting for their insurance money. Apart from this Nehra also missed the final of the World Cup in 2011 and the subsequent IPL season due to an injury. The left-handed bowler is yet to receive the full insurance money of that too.

Following a discussion between former BCCI chief N Srinivasan and the Indian team players just before the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League, the board had come up with IPL insurance policy for all centrally contracted players. It compensates the players in case of IPL non-appearance/unavailability because of injury/accident and illness/sickness. A player also becomes eligible for compensation if he picks up an injury while playing for India which forces him to miss the IPL partially or fully.

Nehra missed the last season of the IPL due to a serious hamstring tendon injury while Yuvraj was forced to miss the first two weeks of IPL 2016 due to an ankle injury which he picked up during a match against the Aussies in the World T20- held in India last year. Nehra also missed the 2011 world cup final due to a fractured finger which also saw him miss IPL 2011 for Pune Warriors.

According to the BCCI officials, Nehra has been paid a part of the amount but 60 percent of the same is still pending while the reason for non-clearing of the compensations is still not clear.
