As the second wave of the coronavirus is in full flow and spreading havoc among the Indians, there have been several relief funds that have been set up to help the current situation. It has been quite difficult for healthcare institutions to manage the sudden upsurge in coronavirus cases across the country.

On Friday, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma set up a relief fund to help in the fight against COVID. The couple themselves contributed INR 2 crores and said they are expecting to raise around INR 7 crores. All the funds which will be collected will go directly to the ACT Grants, which will help the crisis of lack of oxygen supplies across the country.

Kohli’s India and Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate Yuzvendra Chahal has stepped ahead and made a contribution of INR 95,000 for this relief fund. The leg-spinner from Haryana has been one of Kohli’s close mates since he appeared for the RCB team for the first time in the 2014 season.

With his donation, he has become one of the 10 most generous donors in this relief fund. Chahal, who was among the players of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team, returned home after the IPL 2021 was suspended indefinitely. He will now stay out of the limelight for quite some time as the Indian team will be playing the ICC World Test Championship final and five Tests in England against the home team.

Yuzvendra Chahal had an underwhelming season in IPL 2021

This break also comes at a much important team for Chahal who has been struggling a bit in recent times. The leg-spinner has not been in the best of form while playing for India since the 2019 World Cup. Ahead of the IPL 2021, he was dropped from the Indian T20 and ODI XIs after a series of underwhelming performances.

To make things worse, his form during the IPL 2021 wasn’t so good. Chahal, who was a key player for RCB’s bowling attack in the past few years, performed quite badly this year. He picked up four wickets from seven matches at an average of 47.50, which is more than double his career numbers. His economy was also 8.26. Despite his poor form, RCB managed to win five out of their seven matches before the IPL got suspended.
