Yuzvendra Chahal has emerged as one of the key members of the Indian team in the last 12 months after making his debut in 2016 against Zimbabwe. He, along with, Kuldeep Yadav, spun a web around the opposition batsmen during the home season last year and scalped bulk of the wickets. Moreover, Chahal’s leg-spin troubled South Africa in their own den as well when the Men in Blue toured the rainbow nation recently. The 27-year-old in an interview recalled how MS Dhoni made him comfortable during his debut series in Zimbabwe.

Chahal is one of the very few finds of the second string team which the selectors often send to play Zimbabwe. He turned into a real force when the duo of Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin was rested last year after playing a plethora of Test matches continuously. He tormented the Sri Lankan batting line-up with his variations and ever since has played almost every ODI or T20I in India colours.

MS Dhoni gave me the ODI cap

Chahal recently appeared in the show Breakfast with Champions which is hosted by Gaurav Kapur. During the conversation, he recalled the memorable moment of receiving the ODI cap from MS Dhoni and how he was in awe of the legend.

“I had received the ODI cap from Mahi bhai. He is a legend and was with him for the first time. I was not even able to talk in front of him. He talks so nicely that you wonder if he is really Mahi bhai,” he said.

Yuvzi also revealed the funny moment when the veteran made a request to not call him ‘Sir’ during the match against Zimbabwe. “During Zimbabwe tour when I met him first, I used to call him Mahi Sir. After two overs he called me and said, ‘Mahi, Dhoni, Mahendra Singh Dhoni or Bhai. Call me whatever you want’,” the leggie added.

Chahal has time and again credited his success to Dhoni and has immense respect for the skipper he debuted under.
