Zimbabwe back off from the tour of Pakistan: Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) who had lost hopes of hosting a series at home saw a ray of hope with Zimbabwe accepting their proposal to play a series in Pakistan is facing another low now since the Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has now denied making the trip to Pak to play the series.
The decision to back off was taken after the country’s Sports and Recreation Committee (SRC) asked them to do so. SRC had consulted the Foreign Affairs department of Zimbabwe, who regarded travelling and playing cricket matches in Pakistan unsafe for its cricketers despite the report from the ZC which claimed of apt security measures being in place for the team to consider the tour.
It was after Managing Director of Cricket Alistair Campbell along with other members of the Board visited Pakistan last week for a pre tour trip. The PCB gave them a substantial tour through the security measures at the Gaddafi Stadium and the National Cricket Academy, in Lahore the places where the touring Zimbabwe team was expected to stay.
Along with that it was also reported that the PCB is willing to spend US $500,000 on security and safety measures which also included helicopter monitored travel and around 3,500 guards. It was also reported that the team was to stay at the Pearl Continental five-star Hotel.
Following the news that Zimbabwe have opted out of the tournament, a few disappointed, dejected fans took to twitter, here are a few picks from among the tweets on this news:
