The series between India and Zimbabwe is to begin in few days time. India will play 3 ODIs (One Day Internationals) and 3 T20Is in the series. Heath Streak, the former Zimbabwe cricketer said that they might be able to put in a surprise against India in the upcoming series.

Streak has been one of the highly rated coaches across the world. He had a great impact as the bowling coach of Bangladesh, producing a handful of young cricketers with an aggressive brand of cricket.

After the resignation, he said in a recent interview that he would like to be the Indian coach but not now, as he wants to gain as much as experience as possible. “I wouldn’t be applying yet, it’s something I would like to look at in the future. I would like to evolve to a head coach’s positions and gain more experience,” he said.

India currently doesn’t have a permanent coach and for the series against Zimbabwe, Sanjay Bangar has been appointed as the head coach.

When asked about Zimbabwe’s chances in the upcoming series, the former captain of Zimbabwe said that if the Indian players carry on the form in the IPL, it will be hard for Zimbabwe and also noted that Zimbabwe are familiar with the conditions and they might well produce a surprise for team India.

“If the Indian youngsters carry on with their IPL form then they’ll be a tough side to beat for Zimbabwe. However, the experience is a factor and we have seen young teams when put under pressure struggle a bit. MS Dhoni’s presence – to have his guidance and leadership – will be a calming influence no doubt, making India a tough team to beat. But Zimbabwe will be playing at home, will be aware of their conditions and they might just be able to spring a surprise,” the bowling coach of Gujarat Lions in IPL opinioned.

When asked about the latest bowling sensation from Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman, who made his debut in Streak’s tenure, he said that batsmen will come up with shots to counter him and Mustafizur would also find other methods against batsmen.

“People will improve and will find ways to counter his skills. Definitely, that will happen but like all bowlers, he too will find other methods that he can use against batsmen, just like we see batters come up with new shots to counter certain kinds of deliveries. Hopefully, he continues to improve because if you stagnate in today’s age, you’ll get left behind by the competition,” he concluded.

The India’s tour of Zimbabwe will commence from 11th June.
