India started off the Zimbabwe tour with a win in the first of the 3 ODI match series. After electing to field first, India restricted Zimbabwe to just 168 thanks to the efforts of all bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with a 4-wicket haul. India chased down the target losing just a wicket, thanks to an unbeaten 162 run stand between KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu. Rahul in course scored a century on his ODI debut. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the game.

Statistical Highlights – Zimbabwe v India, 1st ODI:

1 – KL Rahul became the first player ever to score centuries in the first innings as an opener in both Tests and ODIs.

2 – KL Rahul is only the 2nd Indian to score fifty plus in the first innings as opener in both Tests and ODIs. Dinesh Karthik was the first player.

2 – MS Dhoni became only the 2nd player to lead India in all the 10 Test nations in ODI Cricket.

3 – KL Rahul and Karun Nair pair is only the 2nd Karnataka pair to open for India in ODIs. Robin Uthappa and Rahul Dravid pair opened in two ODI games for India in 2006.

3 – Number of players made their ODI debut for India in this game. Last time 3 Indians made their debut in ODI Cricket in the same game was on June 5th, 2010 against Sri Lanka also at Harare.

3 – KL Rahul and Karun Nair opening for India on their ODI debuts is only the 3rd instance of 2 debutants opening for India in this format. Last opening pair of debutants for India was Parthasarthi Sharma and Dilip Vengsarkar in Feb 1976 against New Zealand.

4/28 – Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling figures in this game are his best bowling figures in ODIs. This is the first time since 2014 an Indian pacer picked up 4 or more wickets conceding under 3 runs an over. Stuart Binny (0.85) and Mohit Sharma (2.75) picked up 6 and 4 wickets respectively conceding less than 3 an over against Bangladesh at Dhaka on 17th June 2014.

8 – Wickets taken by India pacers in this game. Last time Indian pacers picked 8 or more wickets in an ODI was in Feb 2015 also vs Zimbabwe at Auckland.

13 – KL Rahul is one of the 13 Indians to score 50+ on ODI debut. 11th player was Ambati Rayudu while Manish Pandey was 12th. All the 3 did against Zimbabwe at Harare.

29 – Innings taken by Ambati Rayudu to complete 1000 ODI runs. Only 3 Indian batsmen took fewer innings for 1000 runs in this format.

51.66 – Ambati Rayudu’s batting strike rate in this innings is the 3rd lowest by an Indian who scored 60+ since June, 1986. Sourav Ganguly’s 51.16 vs Bangladesh in 2007 is the lowest.

93 – Balls taken by Ambati Rayudu to bring up his fifty. This is the 3rd slowest fifty by an Indian against Zimbabwe in ODIs since June, 2001.

100* – KL Rahul became the first Indian to score a century on ODI debut. Previous highest was 86 by Robin Uthappa. In overall, he is the 11th player to score a century on debut.
