After a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the first T20I, India would hope to return to winning ways in the second match in Lucknow. Their batting performance was pretty average in the first match as other than Suryakumar Yadav and Washington Sundar, none of them could live up to the expectations.

With the ball, pacer Arshdeep Singh once again had a forgettable outing while Umran Malik was trusted with only one over. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya bowled three, conceding over 30 runs. Thus, there is a lot of room for improvement at the moment and the team would hope to rectify all the mistakes and come out stronger in the second match. However, will they make any changes to their squad in order to achieve success?

Here’s India’s predicted XI for the 2nd T20I against New Zealand:

Openers – Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan (wk)

Despite being poor with the bat in the first match of the series, the opening duo of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan is likely to continue and thus, Prithvi Shaw will once again have to wait for his opportunity. Meanwhile, their record in T20I cricket has not been great of late and that needs to change immediately.

The 23-year-old Gill, who recently hit a double century in ODI, has the highest score of 36 in his last 12 T20I innings. Kishan, on the other hand, was touted to be the first-choice big opener for India in T20I cricket, however, he has not been able to live up to his expectations. Thus, there is currently pressure on them both the players.

Middle order - Rahul Tripathi, Suryakumar Yadav

Rahul Tripathi has not been able to prove himself in international cricket and opportunities may soon run out of his hands. In the last match, the 31-year-old failed to open his account and he would want to score some runs in the second match. With players like Prithvi Shaw and Jitesh Sharma waiting in the wings, Tripathi needs to deliver to cement his position in the team.

Suryakumar Yadav, on the other hand, was at his best in the previous match but failed to take India home. The flamboyant cricketer scored 47 off 34. However, after his dismissal, India’s chances of winning the game were finished. He is an important member in the T20 set-up and needs to play in the same charismatic way to bring success for India in the next match.

All-rounders - Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya (C), Washington Sundar

Deepak Hooda was sensational with the ball in the first match but he did not complete his quota. Meanwhile, with the bat, he could not do much and that is where he needs to improve.

Indian skipper Hardik Pandya looked pale as well in the first game. With the ball, the all-rounder conceded at over 10 runs per over, while he scored 21 off 20 with the bat. He was average in the match and India cannot afford another similar performance from their captain.

Washington Sundar was India’s best performer in the first game against Kiwis. The 23-year-old picked up two wickets for just 22 runs in his four overs, while with the bat, the all-rounder smashed 50 off 28 deliveries. He was close to handing India the win but fell short in the end.

Bowlers - Shivam Mavi, Kuldeep Yadav, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh

Shivam Mavi had a terrific debut for India but has not been able to play in the same manner ever since. He was decent in the previous match but there is still a lot of room for improvement. In Lucknow, where the pacers are likely to get support from the pitch, Mavi would expect to perform better for the team

The spin wizard Kuldeep Yadav was brilliant in the first T20I. Even though he picked up only one wicket, he was very economical and that is a positive sign. He is a runaway match-winner in the shortest format of the game and the team management would hope for a similar performance from him in the next match.

Ace pacer Umran Malik was given only one over and he conceded 16 runs. The skipper did not hand him the ball again, however, he can make a return in the second match as he has the pace to create havoc in the middle.

Arshdeep Singh, meanwhile, has been disappointing, to say the least. The young pacer conceded 51 runs in his four overs. After the first match, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra pointed out how Arshdeep is not bowling yorkers and is delivering in the batter's zone. Given his ability, he is expected to get better in the series.

India's probable XI against New Zealand for 2nd T20I - Ishan Kishan (wk), Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (c), Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Shivam Mavi, Umran Malik, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh
