India have not had a good start to the Bangladesh tour, having failed to win the first two games of the ongoing 50-over leg. However, they have a great chance to redeem themselves in the upcoming two-match Test series, which starts on December 14.

India presently stand at the fourth position in the World Test Championship 2021-23 points table with points percentage of 52.08 and would like to win the upcoming series to give themselves a chance to qualify for the Finals in June. As they bid to conquer Bangladesh in the longest format of the game, let us look at the players to watch out for:

3. Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill is one of the finest opening batters going around in the Indian circuit at the moment. He has been quite phenomenal in the ODIs and has taken top-drawer bowling line-ups apart with his marauding bat. The 23-year-old has played 15 matches in the 50-over format and scored 687 runs at an average of 57.25.

However, the ace batter has not been able to thrive in Tests. He has shown glimpses of brilliance but has failed to make it big. Gill has featured in 11 Tests and scored 579 runs at an average of 30.47. Talking about India’s last Test, which was against England, the Punjab-born could only score a total of 21 runs in both innings.

Gill has been picked for the upcoming series against Bangladesh. He was likely to warm the bench with the senior opening duo of Rohit and KL Rahul also in the team. But with the Indian skipper’s thumb injury expected to rule him out of at least the first test, Gill has a great opportunity to show his batting prowess and stamp his authority in the longest format of the game.
