India women kicked off their multi-format series against Australia with the one-off Test match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from December 21.

The clash began with the visitors batting first after winning the toss. However, the Indian bowling attack once again put in an exceptional performance.

Opener Phoebe Litchfield was run out on a duck and things went from bad to worse when ace batter Ellyse Perry was dismissed by Pooja Vastrakar for just four runs in the very next over, bamboozled by Vastrakar's pace.

After the two early wickets, Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath launched a counterattack, scoring 40 and 50 runs, respectively while skipper Alyssa Healy added 38 runs on the board as well before she was dismissed.

Annabel Sutherland, Ashleigh Gardner, and Jess Jonassen failed to last long, scoring just 16, 11, and 19 runs, respectively. The Indian bowling attack did a fantastic job of limiting the visitors to a reasonable total in the first innings.

Vastrakar was the highest wicket-taker with four wickets to her name while Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma also contined their brilliant form, taking three and two wickets to bundle out the Aussies for 219 in the first innings.

India will be keen to put a similar performance with the bat, posting a huge total on the board, and maximising their lead as much as possible on Day 1 and the upcoming day as well.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will be riding high on confidence coming on the back of a brilliant win against England women in the only Test match earlier this month and it could be interesting to see how they fare in the upcoming days against the Aussies.
