Mumbai Indians bowlers led by Nuwan Thushara and Jasprit Bumrah helped their side to bowl out KKR for 169 runs. Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first and the move paid off well as KKR were reduced to 57/5 inside the 7th over.

Manish Pandey and Venkatesh Iyer then added 83 runs for the 6th wicket to bring KKR back into the game. Mumbai came back into the game as they picked the last five wickets for a mere 29 with Bumrah claiming three wickets in the end as Venkatesh Iyer scored 70.

Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 (Mandatory – 46/3)

Ishan Kishan began well but he lost his leg stump to Mitchell Starc while going for a huge hit. Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine then got the wickets of Naman Dhir and Rohit Sharma to leave Mumbai Indians in trouble.

Mumbai Indians: 50 runs off 7.2 overs

Suryakumar Yadav who is struggling for runs took some time to get going. Along with Tilak Varma, he took the score past 50 as the Mumbai Indians were looking to get themselves out of trouble.

Mumbai Indians: First Strategic Time-out (61/4 from 8.4 overs)

Tilak Varma was dismissed for 4 off 6 balls when Varun Chakravarthy had him caught by Sunil Narine. This put the Mumbai Indians into huge trouble just like KKR were facing in the first innings.

Mumbai Indians: 100 runs from 13.4 overs

Vaibhav Arora bowled a no-ball which gave Mumbai Indians and Suryakumar Yadav to take advantage. The 33-year-old hit the bowler over the extra cover region for a huge six to bring the three-figure markup. 

Half-Century: Suryakumar Yadav off 30 balls

Mumbai Indians were kept in the hunt thanks to Suryakumar. The best T20 batter in the world hit Vaibhav Arora for 20 runs including two pulled fours. One of those boundaries got him to his 24th IPL fifty.

Mumbai Indians: Second Strategic time-out (120/7 from 15.3 overs)

Andre Russell turned hero for KKR when he got the biggest wicket of the game. A low full toss from the West Indian saw SKY try to play his famous flick shot but only got a thick edge. Phil Salt settled under the ball and took an easy catch to put an end to the innings.

End of the Innings: Mumbai Indians 145 all out from 18.5 overs

Mumbai Indians became the first team to be knocked out of the IPL 2024 season as they lost the game by 24 runs. Mitchell Starc picked 4 wickets to end the game when he knocked over the stumps of Gerald Coetzee to help KKR win their 7th game of the season.
