Australia international David Warner will be fulfilling his responsibilities with Sydney Thunder before joining Dubai Capitals for the second edition of the ILT20. However, the entire decision depends on his availability. The southpaw confirmed that he will be leaving red-ball cricket after the final Test match against Pakistan in the Sydney Cricket Ground and following which, he will have some free time to play franchise cricket. However, if he plans to play in ILT20, the cricketer would require a No Objection Certificate, which might jeopardise a couple of things.

Notably, the governing body of ILT20 is yet to announce the date of commencement and hence, things are a bit tight at the moment. The last league game of BBL is slated to take place on January 17 and thus, if ILT20 starts around January 24, it will not be a problem. However, anything before that might cause a bit of a problem.

Interestingly, Warner signed a big-money contract with Sydney Thunder last year, where he joined on a two-year deal worth AUD $340,000 per season. However, due to international commitments, he couldn’t play all the matches. Something similar is expected to repeat this year as well. Meanwhile, Cricket Australia have been very vocal about local players representing in the Big Bash League, whenever they get free. Thus, it will be interesting to observe if Warner plays all the matches of the upcoming season.

Australia to host West Indies in February, dates may clash with ILT20

On the other hand, Australia will host West Indies in a T20I series, which is slated to begin on February 9. That, again, might collide with ILT20 and hence, Warner’s participation for Dubai Capitals might get very limited. Meanwhile, Australia’s Daniel Sams and Andrew Tye too have signed for ILT20.

As per ESPNcricinfo, Sams may not face a lot of issues in playing ILT20 but the same cannot be said for Tye, who holds a Western Australia state contract. Hence, Cricket Australia and a lot of its players will have a tough job on their hands in the next few months.
