The year 2023 was full of cricketing action as fans got to witness several tournaments across 12 months. The year was historical in many ways with three major ICC Tournaments along with numerous domestic leagues and bilateral series taking place. Apart from that, the year also saw the most number of sixes ever hit in a cricketing calendar year as the fans witnessed the batters clearing the fence on 6567 occasions in 692 international matches.
Hence, they surpassed the tally of 6385 achieved in 2022 from 735 matches. UAE’s Muhammad Waseem had the biggest contribution in achieving the record as he clobbered 98 sixes in the year from 45 matches. India captain Rohit Sharma who was on a six-hitting spree throughout the year and broke the record of most sixes in international cricket finds himself on the second spot.
Sharma smacked 80 sixes from 39 innings scoring 1800 runs in the year while Kushal Malla hit 65 maximums from 32 innings and occupies the third spot. Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh and New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell are tied on the fourth spot with 61 sixes to their names while Marsh only took 33 innings to smack 61 sixes Mitchell took 51 innings to get there.
Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav also feature on the list
Indian young batting sensation Shubman Gill is on the fifth spot with 58 sixes from 52 innings while Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikander Raza, who hit 57 sixes from 25 innings, is on the sixth spot. India’s T20I batting star sits on the seventh spot with 56 maximums while UAE’s Asif Khan (53 sixes), Kusal Mendis (49 sixes) Heinrich Klaasen (46 sixes, 33 inns) are on the last three spots.
