The Black Caps took home the 1st T20I by a margin of 21 runs, thus bouncing back strongly after a humiliating 3-0 whitewash in the ODI series previously. It just didn't seem to affect them that they had faced a clean sweep or they had lost the toss and were having to bat first.

The batting department, right from the openers till the middle order, and with some final flourish from Daryl Mitchell at the death, propelled the Kiwis to put up a challenging total on the board (176/6).

The bowling department wasn't very effective, but mainly it was the batting department that was completely at the mercy of the Kiwi bowlers.
