IPL 2024 Orange Cap Holder List: Royal Challengers Bengaluru's veteran batter Virat Kohli leads the Orange Cap race in IPL 2024 with 430 runs after SRH vs RCB Match 41.
RCB star batter Virat Kohli has looked at his vintage best this season ,carrying his team batting lineup. He even notched up his first hundred of IPL 2024, scoring an unbeaten 113* off 72 balls with the help of 12 fours and four sixes against Rajasthan Royals during Match 19 in Jaipur. He currently has 430 runs at an average of 61.43 and a strike rate of 145.76.
With a scintillating century against Lucknow Super Giants, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad breached the Orange Cap list to stand next to topper Kohli. The Maharashtra batter has scored 349 runs so far, which includes a century at Chepauk. Ruturaj's average is also an astonishing 58.17, which is a thing to applaud since he is also donning the captaincy hat for the defending champions in the ongoing season, taking over the reins from legendary skipper MS Dhoni.
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has also looked in imperious form on his comeback to the cricket field after surviving a near-fatal car accident. The southpaw sits on the third spot with 342 runs from nine innings at an average of 48.85 and a strike rate of 161.32. He recently played a breathtaking innings of 88* (43) against Gujarat Titans in Match 40.
Next up, Sai Sudharsan, the youngster from Gujarat Titans, is also among the top contenders for the Orange Cap with 334 runs to his name from nine matches at an average of 37.11 and a strike rate of 128.96. The Tamil Nadu batter has been a lone warrior of sorts for the team as Gujarat Titans have not had the best of runs with the bat.
Sunrisers Hyderabad opening batter Travis Head has also stormed into the Orange Cap race with his explosive knocks. The southpaw scored a 41-ball 102 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and a belligerent 89 (32) against Delhi Capitals (DC) and is currently on the fifth spot. The 30-year-old has scored 325 runs from seven matches at an average of 46.43 and a mind-boggling strike rate of 212.42.

Rules for IPL 2024 Orange Cap
- The Orange Cap is awarded to the leading run-scorer of the IPL season.
- The batsman who holds the Orange Cap during the season is allowed to wear it while in the field during the games, as long as he retains the top-scorers spot in the tournament.
- In an event where two or more batsmen are tied on runs, the batsman with a better strike rate is awarded the Orange Cap.
- In an event where an opposition batsman overtakes the tally of the current holder of the Orange Cap, the previous holder is allowed to wear the Cap until the end of that particular innings in which another batsman overtakes him.

The first-ever recipient of the Orange Cap was Shaun Marsh. The Aussie, who represented the Punjab Kings in the inaugural edition of the IPL plundered 616 runs in the tournament. The first-ever Indian player to win the Orange Cap award in the IPL is Sachin Tendulkar. The legendary cricketer scored 618 runs in the year 2010.
Chris Gayle is the only player to have won the Orange Cap award on two consecutive occasions. The West Indian emerged as the highest run-scorer in the 2011 and 2012 editions of the IPL. Also, Aussie David Warner has won the Orange Cap award the most number of times (three). The other players who have won the award are Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey, Robin Uthappa, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Kane Williamson and KL Rahul.
