Ashleigh Gardner made her international debut in 2017 during the T20I series against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui. Her WT20I debut took place on February 17 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, where she was run out for a golden duck in a 40-run win. In the following game of the series, she secured her first international wicket by dismissing Amy Satterthwaite.

During the 2016–17 Rose Bowl series in New Zealand, Gardner debuted in WODIs at Bay Oval on March 2. She contributed with an unbeaten 12, clinching the match-winning runs in Australia's four-wicket victory. In June 2017, the right-arm off-spinner made history as the first Indigenous Australian woman to compete in a Cricket World Cup, participating in the 2017 edition against the West Indies. Throughout the ICC event, she claimed eight wickets in as many matches. Despite her efforts, Australia were knocked out in the semi-finals.

The 27-year-old boasts an impressive cricket career, having represented Australia in six Tests, 69 ODIs, and 88 T20 matches.
