Sunrisers Hyderabad put Royal Challengers Bengaluru down under the hole with their carnage at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday. RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first aiming to capitalise on the chasers winning pattern in Bengaluru. But little did they know, that a tornado beckoned named Travis Head. The SRH opener took RCB bowlers to the cleaners and registered a half-century in just 20 deliveries within the powerplay.

He fetched 18 runs from Lockie Ferguson’s over and set the tone for the target. He went on to smash a blistering century and scored 102 off just 41 deliveries. Abhishek Sharma supported him well and departed after a 34 runs knock. Then came Heinrich Klaasen was adamant about going big from ball one. He smashed 67 runs in just 31 deliveries and put SRH on a path to break their previous record.

Aiden Markram looked subdued at the start and joined the party as RCB failed to exert pressure with the bowling changes. Markram was well supported by Abdul Samad who wielded his blade to chop anything that came in his arc. The duo orchestrated a mayhem at the death and garnered 56 runs in a mere 18 deliveries. SRH posted a humongous 287 runs on board losing just three wickets in the course.

SRH are new historians in town

287 is the highest-ever total in the history of the Indian Premier League. SRH undid the previous record held by RCB themselves against Mumbai Indians in the 2024 edition itself. They had smashed 277 to overcome RCB’s 263 record. Just almost a month after the landmark achievement they have rewrote history in front of the historians at their home ground.
