Virat Kohli was going through a probably roughest patch of his career in 2022. During that period, Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam sent some encouraging words his way via a tweet. The camaraderie between the two is well known and Babar has now opened about Virat’s motivating words for him. He did not reveal too much of the conversation and remained tight-lipped on most turns.

The right-handed batter has been on a lean patch ever since the World Cup 2023. Though he stitched a series of half-centuries against New Zealand in the T20Is, his usual touch was far to be seen. Virat and Babar met during the Asia Cup 2023 and subsequently during India’s World Cup match against Pakistan.

"I always try and talk to him whenever we play against each other. I always ask him few questions and he helps me with it. Not only him, I also talk a lot to Steve Smith and Kane Williamson, when we play against Australia and New Zealand, respectively. I had a good chat with Virat Kohli, there are things that we talk about that I can’t share here but it was fruitful," Babar said in an interview with Zalmi TV.

The Pakistan captain also talked about his experience of playing a World Cup match against India in Ahmedabad. He expressed that the blue jerseys dominated the entire stadium akin to a sea. He further emphasised that Pakistan received an ample amount of support in other venues they played. He also admitted to not have anticipated the Indian crowd supporting Pakistan.

"It was a different vibe. The entire stadium was see of blue. You are playing in India, you can expect it. But in other venues, we also received exceptional support. I was not expecting it from India. I was not expecting it at all. It was my first time in India and I had no knowledge about the country. It was a different experience. It was their love, Indian people gave us so much love, they appreciated our cricket,” Babar added.
