Jaydev Unadkat reckons having variations is absolutely necessary for a bowler if he has to survive and do well in the shortest format of the game. Unadkat is spearheading the Indian attack in the ongoing Nidahas Trophy in the absence of the mainstays Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah and he has had a mixed bag.

While he proved to be very expensive against Sri Lanka, he came up with far better returns in the second game against Bangladesh and he is now looking to further improve his performance in the remaining part of the tournament. Unadkat has had Washington Sundar as his new ball partner in both the games so far and the 26-year old is very impressed with how the Tamil Nadu youngster has gone about his job.

Speaking about Washington Sundar

According to Unadkat, the secret of Sundar’s success is that he doesn’t try to do anything extraordinarily different. He just looks to put the ball in the right areas while trying to change his pace every now and again which helps him keep the batsmen at bay.

“We have bowled together in the past for Pune in IPL. What benefits us is how he contains the batsman being an off spinner which is a very difficult job. He varies his pace really well and keeps it simple.” Unadkat was quoted saying by TOI.

Talking about his perspective on T20 Cricket, Unadkat stresses that this is a format where every single is an event. So a bowler has to plan for one ball at a time as the batsman keeps coming at you and looks to put pressure on you. It’s about having a game plan for each delivery and try and execute what you have planned as efficiently as you can.

“You can be under pressure 24 times (off a maximum 24 balls) in T20s. We executed our plans better against Bangladesh and it is only going better in the coming games.” Unadkat added.
