There was an 18-player squad by India for the T20 World Cup 2021. Except for 3 or 4 players, most of the players did not perform well in the whole tournament. Every Indian wants to forget the bitter memories of the T20 World Cup 2021, which passed like a nightmare for the whole country as this was the first incident when Pakistan defeated India in the ICC T20 World Cup. It was the biggest wound for the Indians to lose against Pakistan. If our team loses to anyone else, Indians do not mind much, but if India loses to Pakistan then the whole of India heats up. After losing to Pakistan, India could not get back to the winning track, losing to New Zealand in the next one. Despite being in the easier group, India finished the T20 world cup 2021 in 3rd place. And for the semifinals, India had to depend on Afghanistan. Overall, this proved to be the worst T20 world cup for India. If any team loses continuous matches then all the fingers are raised at the selectors and captain. The same thing happened with BCCI and Virat Kohli. After losing to his arch-rival Pakistan, everyone started to criticize the BCCI for its pickings and then skipper Virat Kohli. 10 players who played in T20 World Cup 2021 but will miss in 2022: 1. Rahul Chahar Rahul Chahar. (Photo Source: Twitter/BCCI) Well, this was a serious controversy, to pick Rahul Chahar over the proven performer Yuzvendra Chahal. Everyone was stunned by the decision of the BCCI and Virat Kohli. Now the noticeable factor is that before starting the T20 World Cup 2021, IPL ended and Yuzvendra Chahal stapled 18 wickets and he was the second-highest wicket-taker for the RCB after Harshal Patel. On the other side, Rahul Chahar had picked only 13 wickets. When the question about picking Rahul Chahar over Yuzvendra Chahal was asked to Virat Kohli, he replied that the pitches of UAE are slow so in these types of pitches Rahul Chahar will be more impactful compared to Yuzvendra Chahal because Rahul Chahar bowls with a little more pace. However, Chahar could not make any impactful performance except for the practice match against Australia. In the UAE pitches, spinners play a critical role but unfortunately, India’s spinners were off-colored in the whole tournament. Talking about Chahar’s current performance in IPL 2022, it hasn’t been all that good. He has picked up 14 wickets in 13 games at an economy of 7.71 and an average of 25.71. Chahar is likely to miss out especially considering Yuzi Chahal is among the leading wicket-takers in the tournament. 2. Varun Chakravarthy Varun Chakravarthy. He picked up 18 wickets in IPL 2021, including a five-wicket haul against Delhi capitals. During the whole IPL season of 2021, he was brilliant and surprised everyone with his accuracy and consistency. Although Varun got a chance to play for India in October 2020 against Australia, he could not make his debut at the time as he was ruled out due to injury. However, he got a chance against Sri Lanka in July 2021 where he impressed everyone with his bowling. He picked only two wickets in three games but he was mighty economical conceding at just 4.88 rpo. He was later picked for the T20 World Cup for his consistent showing. Varun Chakravarthy played 3 matches in the T20 World Cup 2021. He conceded 71 runs without picking up a wicket. His performance in the ongoing IPL 2022 hasn’t been good either. The spinner has scalped just six wickets in 10 games at an economy of 8.40. 3. He received much recognition in the T20 leagues around the world as compared to the international matches. Bravo made his international debut against England on 18 April 2004 and since then he has been tremendous on the cricket field delivering numerous match-winning performances. He played 295 matches for the West Indies and scored 6423 runs along with 363 wickets. Although his career was full of ups and downs, he made an impactful impression in international cricket. Bravo has represented his team in the six world cup campaigns. In the T20 world cup 2021, he was not up to his potential and when West Indies were knocked out from the league stages, he decided to hang his boots from international cricket. 4. Since making his international debut in 2007 against South Africa, he has smashed 4275 runs in 224 matches with the help of 3 centuries and 19 half-centuries. Apart from it, he has taken 97 wickets. Pollard is considered a T20 specialist player but his last T20 World Cup did not go well. He was the captain of the West Indies team which did not perform well in the T20 World cup 2021 and was knocked out of the World Cup in the league stage. Failure in the big tournaments, poor form, and disputes with the West Indies Cricket Board made him retire from international cricket on April 20, 2022. 5. Tom Curran Tom Curran. However, besides having an enormous amount of talent, he hasn’t shown his potential in the big matches yet. This tall and lanky bowler got the England cap for the first time on 23 June 2017 against South Africa and earned international recognition very early. He has played 60 matches for England taking 65 wickets along with scoring 433 runs. In the T20 World Cup 2021, he replaced his brother Sam Curran who was ruled out due to a back injury. He did not get enough chances to play and in the matches, he played he wasn’t very impactful. 6. Daryl Mitchell Daryl Mitchell. Interestingly, Mitchel is the son of a rugby player but he chose to make his career in cricket. He has made good international recognition in a very short career. Daryl Mitchell got the New Zealand cap for the first time on February 6, 2019, against India in a T20I. But the all-rounder hasn’t gotten many opportunities to showcase his talent. He has played 37 matches in his international career scoring 907 runs, including two centuries and four half-centuries along with scalping 8 wickets. Daryl Mitchell did get a chance in the T20 World Cup and he delivered his career-best T20 knock in the semifinals against England winning the “Player of the Match” award. However, Mitchell, currently playing in the IPL, hasn’t been in the best of forms scoring just 33 runs in the two games and conceding at 13.50 rpo without taking a wicket. 7. Sarfaraz Ahmed Sarfaraz Ahmed. (Photo Source: Twitter) The former captain and wicketkeeper-batter of Pakistan ruled Pakistani cricket after the resignation of Misbah-ul-Haq. The highlight of his career is winning the 2017 champions trophy. He is well known for his captaincy skills and wicket keeping. After getting the Pakistan cap for the first time against India on 18 November 2007, he performed decently in all formats of the game. He played 223 matches for Pakistan and scored 5771 runs with the help of five centuries and 32 half-centuries. Apart from that, he has affected 352 dismissals in his international career. Due to his poor performance last year, he did not find a place in the T20 World Cup 2021 squad initially. However, he was recalled to the Pakistan squad after the exclusion of Azam khan. 8. He played many memorable knocks for Afghanistan. One of his best knocks was 90* against Bangladesh which helped Afghanistan to register their first win against any test playing nation. After getting the Afghanistan cap for the first time against Scotland on 19 April 2009, he played 195 matches for Afghanistan and scored 4246 runs including two centuries and 19 half-centuries. Apart from it, he has scalped four wickets. He was a part of the Afghanistan team in the T20 World Cup 2021 and made an impressive 31 in 23 balls against Namibia. The heartbreaking loss to Pakistan forced him to take retirement from all forms of cricket. 9. Mohammad Hafeez M Hafeez. (Photo Source: Twitter) Mohammad Hafeez was one of the most experienced all-rounders in Pakistan. His international career for Pakistan spanned 18 years. A versatile batter and a handy off-spin bowler, Hafeez played an important role in many of Pakistan’s wins. After getting the Pakistan cap for the first time against Zimbabwe in 2003, he played 392 international matches for Pakistan scoring 12780 runs with the help of 21 centuries and 64 half-centuries. He also scalped 253 wickets. Hafeez was a part of the T20 World Cup 2021 team and played 6 matches but could not perform well and scored just 85 runs. He decided to hang his boots from international cricket earlier this year. 10. Tymal mills Tymal Mills. Tymal Mills is famous for his slower balls and deadly yorkers. He is a very good death bowler. After getting the England cap for the first time against Sri Lanka in 2016, he played only 12 T20s for England and scalped 11 wickets. Returning to the England side after a hiatus of five years, he was the joint leading wicket-taker for England in the T20 World Cup 2021 picking up seven wickets. Mills had to back out in the middle of the T20 World Cup last year due to a thigh strain injury. He was part of the Mumbai Indians squad in the IPL. Featuring in five games so far, he has picked up six wickets at a high economy rate of 11.17. Mills hasn’t looked at his best recently and might miss out on the T20 World Cup 2022.
