5 Instances when getting retired out was a better option for Indian batters
Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed headlines after retiring out during an IPL game
3. Ajinkya Rahane (40 runs from 35 balls vs West Indies, 2016 )
The 2016 T20 World Cup semi-final was a horrible outing for the Indian bowlers. They were smashed all over the park by the mighty West Indies batters. Hence, Virat Kohli’s heroics of an unbeaten 89 off 47 balls with the bat went in vain.
Well, if the Windies won by seven wickets with two balls remaining, there was an error in the Indian batting performance as well. If one looks at the scorecard, one would notice that Ajinkya Rahane scored 40 runs from 35 balls. On a small Wankhede ground, this was not acceptable at all.
If Rahane had retired out early, then Kohli would have faced 5-10 more balls, allowing him to accumulate some more runs. This could have been the difference between the sides. Well, with MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja in the lineup, Rahane’s approach was not on spot.
