The movie ‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams‘ kick started the way people looked at cricket documentaries, with people often considering Sachin Tendulkar a demi-god. While Sachin enjoys unprecedented status amongst the cricket fans, Ramakant Achrekar remains the Brihaspati (Guru of demi-gods) for the right-handed Maestro.

Achrekar has often been limited to the role of being Sachin’s coach. The veteran coach, who has been the right-hander’s mentor over the years will be depicted through the movie tentatively titled ‘Sir’, which is set for a December 3 release. The movie, directed by National Award winner Pramod Purswane will look at all aspects of the coach’s life, which has been quite unknown to the people.

A large chunk of the movie will have the Master Blaster talk about the special and cordial relationship that they have shared between them. The other notable students of Achrekar are Pravin Amre, Chandrakant Pandit, Amol Mazumdar, Atul Ranade, who will also talk about the coach.

Sarfaraz Khan also a part of the movie

“It is not a biography, because here we tell a story on how Achrekar supported his wards despite financial difficulties. It is rare in today’s times where youngsters like Sarfaraz Khan struggle just because there are no Achrekars to help them out,” director Pursawne explained to Sportstar.

The former India U19 batter Sarfaraz Khan’s story is also depicted in the film. “The idea was to show how a promising youngster like Sarfaraz, hailing from a lower-middle class family, struggles because there is no one to help him out. That’s how we are connecting the story with Achrekar Sir,” Purswane said.

However, Vinod Kambli would not be a part of the movie, which is unfortunate according to the director. Purswane’s previous film, which dealt with Indian hockey, had very supporters in the country, but this time around with Sachin’s presence, he hopes to turn the tide. “On his birthday (December 3), we plan to release the film. I have been working on it for a long time, and it’s time to show it to the world.”
