India, after winning against Hong Kong, are currently playing their second match of the 2018 Asia Cup against arch-rivals Pakistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. They have made an impressive start with wickets at regular intervals. But Rohit Sharma and Co have been hit by a massive blow as Hardik Pandya, the Indian all-round cricketer, had developed an injury.

During the penultimate delivery of the 18th over, Pandya churned out a length delivery. However, he went down thereafter and was immediately treated with medical attention. A stretcher was brought for him after which he was carried off the field. In a recent development, it has been learned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has updated about his injury.

Is Pandya all-right?

The world’s richest cricket board has mentioned that he has an acute lower back injury. Fortunately, he could stand, which wasn’t the case on the cricket pitch, and he is being treated by the medical team. Right-handed batsman Manish Pandey has replaced him in the outfield and has already taken a superlative catch at long-on to get rid of Sarfraz Ahmed, the Pakistani captain.

The conditions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) isn’t pleasant by any stretch of the imaginations owing to the high temperature and humidity. It won’t be surprising if the heat somewhat contributed to the injury. Pandya played the T20I, ODI and Test series in England, but couldn’t quite weave his magic in his areas of expertise. Subsequently, he was criticised for his lacklustre performance.

India played the first match against Anshuman Rath and Co and Pandya was rested in order to keep him afresh for the marquee clash. Along with him, Jasprit Bumrah was also given a break after he played three matches in the English tour. For the time being, the India team management and the supporters will be hoping for the all-rounder to recover at the earliest.
