Chairman of India’s selection panel MSK Prasad has hit out at Farokh Engineer for his startling comments on the selectors and Anushka Sharma, wife of India skipper Virat Kohli. In a sensational outburst, Engineer slammed the selectors and questioned their credibility for the job.

Engineer, who played 46 Tests and 5 ODIs for India, lashed out at the Indian team’s selection committee led by MSK Prasad in his outburst. He called the current selection panel ‘Mickey Mouse selection committee’. He went on to claim that he saw one of the selectors wearing blazer fetching cups of tea for Anushka during the 2019 World Cup in England.

“We have got a Mickey Mouse selection committee. Virat Kohli has a major impact (in the process) which is very good. But how are the selectors qualified? All they were doing was getting Anushka Sharma (Kohli’s wife) cups of tea. I feel people with the stature of Dilip Vengsarkar should be in the selection committee,” Engineer told a news outlet.

I feel sad for someone deriving sadistic pleasure, says MSK Prasad

As expected, Engineer’s comments raised a number of eyebrows and the former wicketkeeper is now facing the heat for the same. Anushka has already vented her frustration at the comment by posting a strongly-worded statement on Twitter. MSK Prasad has now responded too. Rubbishing the claims of Engineer, Prasad slammed Engineer for deriving ‘sadistic pleasure out of indulging in the petty talk’.

“I feel sad for someone deriving sadistic pleasure out of indulging in the petty talk, thereby demeaning & disrespecting the selectors and wife of Indian captain through false and frivolous allegations,” MSK Prasad was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

“Let’s not forget that this selection committee has been appointed by BCCI through a proper process in an AGM,” Prasad added before advising Engineer to behave maturely and enjoy the progress of Indian cricket. “Someone at the age of 82 should reflect maturity and enjoy the progress of Indian cricket from his time to the current day,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Anushka had also rubbished Engineer’s claims. The actress asked others not to drag her name while criticising others. Anushka also took shots at the section of fans who continuously target her on social media. She has been targeted by many since she started dating Kohli and it continues till date, even after their marriage.

“If you want to have a comment on the selection committee and their qualifications please do so as it’s your opinion but don’t drag my name into it to substantiate your claim or sensationalise your opinion. I refuse to allow anyone from using my name in such conversations,” part of Anushka’s statement read.
