Australia lost the third Test against India at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) by 137 runs and conceded an unassailable 2-1 lead to their opponents. After the visitors racked up 443 in their first innings, the Aussies found themselves in a rabbit hole from which they couldn’t pull themselves out. However, maybe not with their cricket, but they managed to win hearts after they roped in Archie Schiller.

Schiller, a seven-year-old kid, was added to the 13-man squad for the Test at the iconic venue and was made the Co-Captain of the team. He was granted his dream ‘to lead the national side’ by Cricket Australia (CA) and Make-A-Wish Foundation. The youngster joined the Aussies during their fielding practice prior to the match and he didn’t take time in gelling with the players.

His mother, Mrs Schiller, said that he now sleeps with the team blazer and the prestigious Baggy Green if allowed. Schiller also had the privilege of getting himself clicked with Virat Kohli, the Indian captain. Archie was diagnosed with a heart condition at birth and then underwent surgery at three months. He has already gone through 13 gruesome surgeries at such a tender age.

Archie Schiller practices with Lyon

Australian head coach, Justin Langer said that it’s the least the Australian cricket fraternity can do for the kid and was glad to bring a smile to Archie Schiller. “He (Archie) has been through some tough times, spent a lot of time in a hospital bed.. So anyway that we can help to put a smile on his face, it’s the very least we can do for him,” Langer mentioned.

Recently, he was seen practicing with Nathan Lyon when rain delayed the start of play on the fifth day in Melbourne. Lyon was seen giving him catching practice. To everyone’s surprise, he took the catch without much difficulty with a proper technique that would make the best of fielders proud. Telegraph Sport uploaded a video of the catch in their official Twitter handle.
