Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry set to leave Sydney Sixers
Perry is contracted to play for the Sixers till the 2019-20 season.
Ellyse Perry is one of the few multi-sports women the world has ever seen. She has represented the Australian team in football and hockey and has flourished in both the sports. The 27-year-old plays for the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League. Last season, she was the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 552 runs from 16 matches at a jaw-dropping average of 46.00.
The women’s prodigy is happily married to Matt Toomua, a professional rugby player. Perry and Toomua are married since December 19, 2015. However, the pair has endured a long-distance relationship since Toomua started playing for Leicester in England, but he is most certainly to return to his hometown in Melbourne and link up with the Melbourne-team on a three-year deal.
There’s nothing set in stone yet
Meanwhile, the women’s all-rounder mentioned that she is likely to shift her team from the Sixers to either team of Melbourne- The Stars and the Renegades. Nevertheless, she hasn’t confirmed anything as of now and iterated that she will play for the Sixers till the 2019-20 season as per her contract.
“Look, (Toomua’s situation) definitely would potentially change where I play my cricket. For me family is always the most important,” Perry was quoted as saying by news.com.au.
“There’s nothing set in stone yet and I don’t really know what we’re going to do just yet. But if Matt was to play somewhere else in Australia that would definitely influence where I was based and it would be about working out where is best for me as well.
“Particularly from a Sixers point of view, I’m contracted until 2020 and I definitely wouldn’t move before then. Certainly the next couple of years I’ll be playing for the Sixers,” the all-rounder added.
This season’s Women’s BBL will get underway with a two-day festival of four matches at the revamped Junction Oval in Melbourne where all eight matches will be played.
