The climax of the eighth edition of the Big Bash League is here. It will be a famous Melbourne Derby at the Docklands Stadium in the final of the tournament on a Super Sunday. Not many would’ve given these two teams a chance after the league stage. Hobart Hurricanes were the favourites to clinch the title, but they endured a bad day in the semi-final and came across an in-form Melbourne Stars.

Led by Glenn Maxwell, the Stars have found their groove at the right time and would be hoping for one final clinical performance to win their first BBL title. The same is with the Melbourne Renegades. They have qualified for the final first time in the history of the tournament. They are coming into this game after chasing down a mammoth 180 against the Sydney Sixers and will be playing at the same venue which is also their home ground.

Pitch and Conditions

The surface for the semi-final was a belter. A similar kind of pitch is expected to greet the teams and a high-scoring game is on the cards to decide the new winner of the BBL. The atmosphere is expected to be brilliant for the game of cricket with the temperatures hovering around 25-27 Degrees Celsius.

Team Combinations

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades haven’t made any changes to their squad for the final. Marcus Harris and Aaron Finch will open the innings while Sam Harper will bat at three. There could be a temptation to promote him to open and bring Jack Wildermuth at the all-rounder’s spot as well. Daniel Christian will be high on confidence after finishing the game while the likes of Tom Cooper and Cameron White will bat in the middle-order.

Probable XI: Marcus Harris/Jack Wildermuth (not opening if selected), Aaron Finch (c), Sam Harper (wk), Cameron White, Mackenzie Harvey, Tom Cooper, Daniel Christian, Cameron Boyce, Kane Richardson, Chris Tremain, Harry Gurney.

Melbourne Stars

The Stars have brought back Jackson Coleman in the squad at the expense of Nick Larkin. But they don’t seem to be making any changes to their XI after a perfect semi-final. Ben Dunk and Marcus Stoinis will open the innings while the skipper Maxwell and Peter Handscomb to take the care of the middle-order. Daniel Worrall has turned out to be an excellent addition to the squad and his opening spell will be crucial for the team even as Sandeep Lamichhane’s return has strengthened the bowling attack.

Probable XI: Ben Dunk, Marcus Stoinis, Peter Handscomb (wk), Glenn Maxwell (c), Nic Maddinson, Seb Gotch, Dwayne Bravo, Evan Gulbis/Jackson Coleman, Adam Zampa, Daniel Worrall, Sandeep Lamichhane.

Sam Harper – Melbourne Renegades | Marcus Stoinis – Melbourne Stars
