Brisbane Heat have had quite a few cricketers, from the likes of Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum, who can play innovative strokes. However, as far as innovation is concerned, the Big Bash League (BBL) franchise has unveiled their latest move. The Heat brought forth -‘The Cage’-a single-lane practice area situated in the stand- at The Gabba on Wednesday.

The technology allows the players to get their eye in until the moment they are called into action. Players will be allowed to have a hit as their team’s innings continues apace behind them.  Moreover, it’s also a delight for the supporters present at the venue as they would be able to watch their heroes with the bat in hand up close and personal as per reports in The Cricketer.

Even the players are excited about the innovation. Expressing delight about the same, Ben Cutting, who plays for the Heat, mentioned: “It’s a great idea and I’ll be using it for sure. There’s always plenty of nervous energy around waiting to bat, so it will be ideal to be able to settle the nerves a bit and get my eye in at the same time before batting.”

In the erstwhile years, the franchise has introduced Pool Deck- a six-by-eight-metre viewing area of the Gabba situated in a tiered swimming pool- as well as a virtual reality tour of the ground available through a mobile phone application, known as Heat VR.

As far as the BBL is concerned, the Heat had a lacklustre season last time around as they could win only four out of 10 matches and finished second-last in the league table. The Heat would be looking to make amends in the next season. They would play the opening match against Adelaide Strikers on Wednesday, December 19 at The Gabba.
