The Big Bash League (BBL) is among the most popular T20 franchise tournaments going around in the world and has a huge following. The first edition was held way back in 2011-2012 and since then, it has been a massive success in Australia. A lot of talents have come up through the ranks with the BBL platform and a lot of local performers have been identified through the tournament.

The BBL usually is scheduled to take place in the Australian summer which starts in the months of December and extends to February. The Australian internationals are most likely to miss the tournament due to the BBL schedule as a lot of home Test series take place during these periods. Every franchise will have the luxury to rope in overseas stars from around the world and has been viewed in most countries.

The upcoming BBL 2022-23 season is no different and is scheduled to be held from 13 December to 4 February 2023. Eight teams namely, Perth Scorchers, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Sydney Sixers, Sydney Thunder, Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes will battle it out against each in the league stages in a total of 56 matches. As far as the BBL stats are concerned, Perth Scorchers are the most successful franchise in the tournament with four titles to their name.

Each of the eight teams will play against each other twice in home and away fixtures and the top five teams will make it to the playoffs. The first and second finishing side in the BBL points table will have a second chance to make it to the finals while the remaining three teams will play in a knock-out manner. Each team can play a maximum of three overseas players in their playing XI.

The first match of the BBL 2022-23 season will be held between the Sydney Thunder and the Melbourne Stars at the Manuka Oval in Griffith.
