India, led by Virat Kohli recently thumped the West Indies 2-0 in the test series and went to the top of the table in the ICC World Test Championship with 120 points. Even as the team rejoiced the stupendous performance in the Caribbean Islands, two of their players- Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravi Ashwin- didn’t have much to cheer from a personal perspective.

Pujara, one of India’s most prolific scorers in Test cricket, floundered as he could only manage 60 runs at an average of 15 with a top score of 27. In fact, his average was the lowest among the Indian batsmen with over 50 runs in the series. As far as Ashwin is concerned, he had to warm the benches for both the matches even as skipper Kohli went with Ravindra Jadeja.

Ashwin has a tremendous record against the West Indies and his four Test tons have also come versus the same opposition. His omission raised quite a few eyebrows, including the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who called the decision to leave him out as ‘baffling’. Their next assignment for the national team is expected to be in October against South Africa at home.

Ashwin and Pujara playing badminton

In the meantime, amidst their hectic cricketing schedules, Pujara and Ashwin are taking time out to stay fit, playing the sport of badminton. The duo seemed to have enjoyed the game a lot. Pujara posted a video where they can be seen, sweating it out and showing their potential with the racket. Pujara captioned the video and wrote, “Day out with the boys for a game of badminton”.

But Ashwin was not impressed by Pujara’s video editing skills on Instagram. The clip posted by Pujara shows his getting a point. But Ashwin shared a slightly lengthier video with the caption, “This post is just to show that @cheteshwar_pujara had the nerve to edit the point I took and managed to squeeze in the next point. The mean white walker!!”

Nevertheless, Pujara had the last laugh as he was the eventual winner of the contest. He replied to Ashwin’s post and wrote, “Could you please clarify I won the game.”
