5 Players who can be big stars in IPL

“Yatra Pratibha Avsara Prapnotihi” - The motto of the Indian Premier League truly represents what it has been over the years. Not just from India, players all across the globe are in the radar of various IPL franchises and it’s been established that if one has the required amount of skill set, then it is good enough for the IPL. In the 15 years of the IPL, the tournament has given chances to multiple players to showcase what they can bring to the table. Players from the associate nations took advantage of that and made a name for themselves in the cricketing world. Sandeep Lamichhane or Ali Khan were popular but IPL gave them the much needed breakthrough in their lives. Despite being in the associate nations, nothing stopped them from excelling in the cash-rich league. So, who can be the next breakthrough superstars in this league? Here are five players who can be a star in the IPL 1. Sikandar Raza The Pakistan-born Zimbabwe international is the talk of the town these days. After his brilliant performance against Bangladesh, Raza was very impressive against India in the 3rd ODI of the series. Playing for Zimbabwe, he needs to control his aggression but he can clear the distance if an opportunity comes. Not just with the bat, Raza is a very effective bowler too. With a change in his action, Raza has been economical so far. The right-arm off-breaker has 28 wickets to his name in T20Is. Coming back to his primary skill, Raza has 1040 runs from 58 matches in T20Is. His strike-rate of 125.45 can be a matter of concern but like mentioned previously, he can accelerate if required. However, his age is the only drawback at this moment. A lot of franchises invest in young talents and that cuts Raza out of the equation. At 36, Raza might not get better with time. However, after the Praveen Tambe saga in Indian cricket, one should never give up. 2. Harry Tector The talented Irishman is already in the radar of few IPL teams. Even though he couldn’t justify his quality in International cricket, the 22-year-old has wreaked havoc in first class cricket and in List A cricket. With the 44 T20Is that he has played, Tector has scored 768 runs with a strike-rate of 129.51. The Irish International hasn’t been impressive as of late but with the quality he possesses, Tector can very well become a dependable batter for Ireland in the future and he has already proved the same in List A cricket. Tector also has the experience of leading his side. He was the U19 captain of the Ireland team and was also elected as the captain of the Northern Knights in 2021. Apart from his batting, Tector is a handy bowler as well. With eight wickets under his belt, the 22-year-old was the highest wicket-taker for Ireland in the 2018 U19 World Cup. Given his performance in the tournament, ICC named him as the Rising Star of the squad. 3. Josh Little Ever since he made his International debut, Josh Little has proved himself that he is made for big things. He has been so impressive as a bowler that Chennai Super Kings appointed him as their net bowler in the 2022 season. Thus, it’s pretty clear that the pacer is in the radar of IPL teams. The 22-year-old, on his ODI debut, picked up four wickets against the English batters. In T20Is, the youngster has represented Ireland in 46 matches and picked up 51 wickets so far. With an average of 25.17 in T20Is, Little can be the next big thing in IPL. With 28 wickets to his name, Little also has the record of being the seventh highest wicket-taker (T20I) in a calendar year. The Irishman has also got pace. If he is guided well, Little can raise the temperature in the auction room. 4. Ryan Burl Ryan Burl is a decent all-rounder and is a jack of all trades. He is Shakib Al Hasan type of cricketer, who can contribute with the bat, can bowl decently and is a good fielder. Unlike Shakib, his inconsistency will always be a matter of discussion. He can anchor the innings well and thus with a strike-rate of 118.56, Burl has scored 728 runs from 47 matches in T20Is. The leg-breaker has 32 wickets in this format and that proves his all-round quality. In the 2017–18 Logan Cup, the Zimbabwean was the leading run-scorer for Rising Stars with 401 runs in five matches. Later he went on to play for Chattogram Challengers in the 2019–20 Bangladesh Premier League. Burl needs to have an exceptional season in order to get into the Indian Premier League. He has done well for himself but the eyes are now on him to take it to the next level. He is an exciting prospect who definitely has the talent to make itbig. 5. George Munsey George Munsey from Scotland is probably the most exciting player on the list. Being an opener, Munsey has 1317 runs to his name from 53 T20Is. He also has an impressive strike-rate of 144.72 to back his explosive nature. The strike-rate even increases in domestic T20 cricket. With the highest score of 127 not out, the 29-year-old holds the record of being the seventh highest run-getter in an innings. His impressive strike-rate is better than that of Babar Azam, the number-one ranked T20I batter in the world. However, the level of competition will always be a matter of discussion. He is an ideal player to be a part of the IPL but with the overload of openers in every squad, Munsey needs to have a breakthrough season to get a chance. If he manages to excel in the T20 World Cup, Munsey’s share will definitely go up in the auction room.
