Young Zimbabwe opener Brian Bennett was one of the surprise packages of the tournament. Zimbabwe entered as underdogs but stunned Australia and Sri Lanka in the group stage to reach the Super Eight. Bennett was central to that success. He scored an unbeaten 48 against Oman before delivering back-to-back match-winning knocks, 64* against Australia and 63* against Sri Lanka. His aggressive yet controlled approach at the top set the tone for Zimbabwe’s fearless brand of cricket.

Although he managed just five runs against West Indies in the Super Eight, he responded with a breathtaking unbeaten 97 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai against hosts India. Despite ending on the losing side, Bennett’s knock earned widespread admiration and established him as a rising star in international cricket.
