5 Players who deserved more IPL chances but were unfairly ignored

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a platform where some of the best players of the world have gone on to establish themselves as the heroes of the tournament. However, there are also some players who though have performed in the tournament have not found a lot of success in the tournament. Some of these players have great stats in T20 cricket but have not managed to show their talent in one of the biggest T20 franchise tournaments in the world. It is time to discuss who these players are who might have deserved to play more games in the IPL than they have played. Stuart Broad Stuart Broad (Photo Source: PAUL ELLIS/AFP via Getty Images) Stuart Broad, known for his legendary feats in Test cricket, has often been perceived as an underwhelming performer for England in T20Is. However, the pacer had played an important role in England's T20 World Cup win in 2010, less than three years after getting hit for six sixes in an over by Yuvraj Singh during the inaugural edition in September 2007. Speaking of his IPL career, Broad was bought by the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2011 and 2012 but could not get a single match in the end. Broad has a great numbers in the shortest format in international cricket, but, unfortunately, a legend like hasn't featured in a single game so far. In T20s, he played a total of 85 matches, taking 100 wickets. The 38-year-old English stalwart has also maintained an economy of 7.19 and an average of 21.44 in the format. 4. Sarfaraz Khan Sarfaraz-Khan. (Photo Source: X) Sarfaraz Khan might not have shown a lot of consistency during the IPL, but he has proven track record in domestic tournaments that he is capable of playing some fiery knocks when required. Sarfaraz, known for his fearless style of batting, as seen in some of his performances in the domestic arena, has often been ignored by teams either at the auction table or in the Playing XI as well. Sarfaraz has 50 matches in the IPL and has scored 585 runs at a decent strike rate of 130.58. In the 2025 mega auction, he went unsold, following an underwhelming 2024 season with the Delhi Capitals. However, the 27-year-old Mumbai batter still has a lot of years left and will be hoping that he gets noticed by the franchises in the future. His brother Musheer is representing Punjab Kings this season, a team that Sarfaraz himself once represented. 3. Ben Stokes Ben Stokes. (Photo Source: BCCI/IPL) Ben Stokes has proven himself as the full package in international cricket, who could play the big innings and also bowl crucial overs in the middle. Stokes was also the most valuable player in the 2017 edition for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant. However, due to injuries, he has barely played in the tournament. Stokes has only played 45 matches in the IPL, where he has scored 935 runs at a healthy strike rate of 133.95 and has taken 28 wickets as well. These are very fewer games for a player who is regarded as one of the top stars in modern-day great, delivering numerous match-winning performances in the past. 2. Jason Roy Jason Roy. Roy has an impeccable record in the T20 cricket as well Roy has featured for four IPL teams and though he has given some great performances in the tournament as well has not played a lot of matches in the tournament. Roy has over 9000 runs in T20 cricket but it seems like he has not got the attention of the franchises. The England international has only played 21 games in IPL, where he has represented Gujarat Lions (GL), Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He has scored 614 runs at a strike rate of 138.60. He was last seen in the DP World ILT20 2025, where he played for the Sharjah Warriorz and has also been away from the England team for quite some time now. 1. Lendl Simmons Lendl-Simmons. (Photo source: X) The name Lendl Simmons has somehow gone forgotten in the IPL. There was a time when the West Indian batter was one of the heroes for the Mumbai Indians from 2014 up to 2017, and he has also got two IPL titles to his name. Not only that, but Simmons has a great record in T20 cricket in both international and domestic cricket and is also a two-time T20 World Cup winner with the Caribbean side. Simmons, in the four years he has played for the Mumbai franchise, has played only 29 matches but has scored 1029 runs at an average of 39.96 and has a strike rate of 126.64, which surprises the fans at how he was ignored for so long in the tournament.
