Chennai Super Kings have been one of the dominant teams in the history of the Indian Premier League. In the 13 editions of the lucrative T20 tournament CSK have featured in thus far, they have won the competition four times and have been runners-up five times. However, MS Dhoni & co. were nowhere close to their best in IPL 2022 and finished the league stage at the second last position.

In a bid to vindicate themselves, CSK moved past eight of their players, including Robin Uthappa, who hung his boots from IPL. They went to the IPL 2023 auction with INR 20.45 crore in their kitty. Though, Chennai signed top-drawer cricketers such as Ben Stokes and Kyle Jamieson to upgrade their side, they missed a trick by not adding certain players to their arsenal.

Here are five Players CSK should've picked in the auction but they didn't

5. Samarth Vyas

Samarth Vyas took the 2022 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by storm with his spectacular performances. The Saurashtra batter took the attack to the opposition right from the get-go and hammered 314 runs in seven games at a stunning strike rate of 177.40.

Samarth displayed his batting might in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 as well. The 27-year-old played a fearless brand of cricket and helped change the course of the game in a course of a few deliveries. He featured in ten matches and aggregated 443 runs at a strike rate of 106.74.

Samarth’s inclusion added firepower to the batting line-up and given Chennai Super Kings had many anchor batters such as Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, and Ambati Rayudu in the mix, it would have made sense for CSK to go after the flamboyant batter at the IPL 2023 auction. But CSK did not place any bids for him at the marquee event and Vyas was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20 lakh.
