IPL 2024: 4 Players who opted out of the mini auction

The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction will take place on December 19 in Dubai and a week before the event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the truncated list of the players auction. A total of 333 players will go under the hammer, of which 214 are Indians and 119 are overseas.

Eminent players such as Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins, who stayed away from the 2023 IPL edition, have submitted their names to get buyers in the auction and feature in the 2024 season. However, some illustrious players have prioritised international cricket over the cash-rich league by not participating in the upcoming IPL 2024 auction. 

Here are four players who will skip the 2024 IPL

4. Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh's white-ball captain Shakib Al Hasan has decided to opt out of the 2024 IPL, to focus on his international career. In the 2023 edition of the tournament, the Bangla stalwart didn’t show up for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), due to personal reasons and international duties.

In the past, the 36-year-old has served KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the league. His best performance came in 2018 when he scalped 14 wickets in 17 matches and helped SRH to reach the final. In Sunrisers’ journey until the final, Shakib supported young spinner Rashid Khan to bolster the team’s spin-bowling unit.

The Bangladesh veteran also played a crucial role in KKR’s second title triumph in 2014. He contributed 227 runs and 11 wickets in Kolkata’s massive success. In the final contest against Punjab Kings (PBKS), he bowled a wicketless but economical spell. On one side, when in-form Sunil Narine was getting hammered, Shakib bowled superb four overs and gave away only 26 runs.
