IPL 2025: 3 teams with worst Back to Back performances in history
PWI had a horrible couple of years in IPL.
1. Delhi Daredevils ( DD ) - 2013 & 2014
2013 Season - Bottom
Delhi’s downfall in 2013 was dramatic. From table-toppers in 2012 to wooden spooners in 2013. Kevin Pietersen and Jesse Ryder were ruled out before the season, weakening the batting line-up. Sehwag and other Indian batters were out of form, putting pressure on the foreign players.
The bowling unit also struggled—Morne Morkel couldn’t replicate his 2012 success, and the overall attack lacked penetration and control. DD constantly chopped and changed their XI, and injuries further disrupted their rhythm. They finished last with just three wins in 16 matches.
2014 Season - Bottom
After a poor 2013 campaign, DD hoped to rebuild in 2014 with a new-look squad. They bought Kevin Pietersen for ₹9 crore and made him captain. However, the results were disastrous—they won only 2 out of 14 matches and again finished last.
High-profile signings like Dinesh Karthik, Pietersen, and Ross Taylor failed to deliver. The bowling lacked quality Indian pacers and struggled both in the powerplay and at the death.
The 2014 season confirmed that Delhi needed a transition phase, marking their third consecutive bottom-place finish.
