IPL 2026: Ranking each team’s death bowlers

In T20 cricket, bowling in the death overs often determines the outcome of a match. The period between overs 16 and 20 is usually the most crucial phase of an innings, where batters look to accelerate and score as many runs as possible. Franchises, therefore, rely heavily on their specialist death bowlers, players who can execute yorkers, slower deliveries, and tight lines under immense pressure. While fast bowlers are generally preferred during this phase, some teams also use spinners strategically if the conditions support them. With IPL 2026 approaching, several franchises boast strong bowling attacks designed specifically to handle the pressure of the death overs. The team includes several fast bowlers who can deliver in the latter stages of the innings. Their pace options include Jofra Archer, Sandeep Sharma, Kuldeep Sen, Adam Milne, and Tushar Deshpande. Young bowlers such as Kwena Maphaka and Nandre Burger also add pace and variety to the attack. However, the unit may take time to develop consistency. Their attack features a number of quick bowlers who can perform effectively in the death overs if they maintain discipline. The squad includes fast bowlers such as Mayank Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Mohammed Shami, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan. Additional support comes from players like Arjun Tendulkar, Prince Yadav, and Akash Singh. With proper execution, this attack could become a major strength for LSG. This group has the potential to perform strongly in the death overs. Their pace attack includes bowlers such as Akash Deep, Vaibhav Arora, Harshit Rana, and Kartik Tyagi. In addition, express pacer Umran Malik and Sri Lankan sling-arm bowler Matheesha Pathirana provide extra pace and wicket-taking ability during the final overs. While their death bowling unit may not be the strongest in the league, they still have several reliable bowlers capable of performing under pressure. Their pace line-up includes Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Ishant Sharma. Overseas players such as Luke Wood and all-rounder Jason Holder further strengthen the bowling department. With a mix of experienced and young bowlers, including Arshad Khan and Ashok Sharma, Gujarat Titans have the depth to challenge opposition batters during the death overs. Their lineup includes several experienced international bowlers who can maintain control in high-pressure situations. The presence of Mitchell Starc and T. Natarajan gives the team excellent death bowling options. Starc’s pace and yorkers combined with Natarajan’s specialist death-bowling skills make them a dangerous pair. The squad also includes Lungi Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar, Kyle Jamieson, and Dushmantha Chameera, giving Delhi multiple options in the pace department. Additionally, spinners like Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav can occasionally be used during the latter stages depending on the match situation. Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 9.5/10 RCB 2025 (Source : Twitter) Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru enjoyed tremendous success in IPL 2025 largely due to their impressive death bowling. Batters often struggled to score quickly against their disciplined pace attack. RCB possess a powerful combination of experienced bowlers, including Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, both of whom are known for their ability to deliver accurate yorkers and slower balls. Supporting them are bowlers such as Yash Dayal, Nuwan Thushara, Jacob Duffy, and all-rounder Romario Shepherd. This balanced attack allows RCB to apply constant pressure on opposition batters during the closing overs. Mumbai Indians: 9.5/10 Mumbai Indians (Source: Twitter) Five-time champions Mumbai Indians arguably possess the strongest death bowling unit in IPL 2026. Their attack is led by world-class pacer Jasprit Bumrah, widely regarded as one of the best all-format bowlers in world cricket. Bumrah’s pinpoint yorkers and composure under pressure make him extremely difficult for batters to attack during the closing stages of an innings. Alongside him, experienced pacers Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar provide excellent support with their swing and accuracy. Mumbai also strengthened their pace attack by bringing in Shardul Thakur, while all-rounder Corbin Bosch adds depth to the bowling line-up. With such a strong group of pacers, MI have the ability to defend even challenging totals in the final overs.
