The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) endured another disappointing season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, finishing sixth on the points table with only six wins from 14 matches. Despite flashes of brilliance, the team struggled for consistency throughout the campaign. One of the major letdowns for SRH was the performance of Mohammed Shami, who failed to make a significant impact with the ball.

The Indian pacer managed to pick up just six wickets in nine matches, a below-par return considering his high standards. With age and fitness concerns also playing a role, SRH might need to rethink his retention ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. Here are three players SRH could target to replace Shami in their pace attack.

New Zealand’s experienced pacer Matt Henry could be a valuable addition to SRH’s bowling lineup. Henry has played 28 T20Is, claiming 39 wickets at an economy rate of 8.29, which is respectable in the modern era of power-hitting. In the IPL, Henry has represented Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2017 and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in 2024, though he featured in only six matches across both seasons.

His international workload and injuries have limited his IPL appearances, but when fit, Henry is a dependable strike bowler with the ability to bowl crucial overs both in the powerplay and at the death. Partnering with Pat Cummins, Henry’s control could provide SRH with the stability they lacked in 2025.
