IPL 2026: Which team has the strongest bowling attack?

The IPL returns for its 19th edition in 2026, with much fanfare and fervour, as previous seasons. Every year, the IPL serves up stiff competitions and exciting battles between bat and ball. While the tournament over the last years has become a batter’s paradise, it has been proven time and again that it is the bowlers that eventually take teams to trophy success. Teams assemble bowling attacks that are complementary and fit each team’s playing ideas, but some teams might fall short of the other. Performance, form and compatibility matter, covering each phase of the innings to the best of their abilities. Here are IPL 2026 teams ranked based on their bowling attack 10. Kolkata Knight Riders Kolkata-Knight-Riders. (Photo source: IPL) Going into the auction in 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders went in with the highest purse of INR 63.40 crore. But what they came back with was a decent squad at best. While injuries have hampered their luck with the bowling lineup they could field, the options at their disposal show that there is a lot to be desired. Harshit Rana and Akash Deep are out for the season with injuries, there is no clarity on Pathirana’s fitness and Mustafizur Rahman was withdrawn due to sociopolitical circumstances. Their spin attack still boasts the experience and potency of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, but apart from Anukul Roy, they are light on genuine backups. Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani comes in for Mustafizur after a brilliant showing at the T20 World Cup, but this attack is still not where it would have been without the injuries. 9. Chennai Super Kings Chennai-Super-Kings. (Photo source: X/IPL) It is uncharacteristic of a team like Chennai Super Kings to have poor auctions, but their squad building for the IPL 2026 leaves a lot of gaps to be plugged. To make matters worse, Nathan Ellis is set to miss the entire season with a hamstring injury. Chennai Super Kings have a very unbalanced attack, with new-ball heavy pacers and lack of quality spinners. New Zealand’s Matt Henry adds experience to the attack, with Noor Ahmad still expected to do most of the heavy lifting. Prashant Veer is a great prospect, but the shoes of the departing Ravindra Jadeja are hard to fill. Rahul Chahar and Shreyas Gopal add some well-needed experience, but this attack still feels incomplete. 8. Sunrisers Hyderabad Sunrisers Hyderabad. (Photo source: IPL) Sunrisers Hyderabad suffer from a problem of plenty. Plenty of options but very less IPL experience around them. Pat Cummins is set to miss the initial rounds of the season, disrupting potential plans. Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel are the most experienced Indian seamers, with Nitish Kumar Reddy expected to bowl overs. Brydon Carse is expected to fill in for Cummins, but he is also just into his second IPL season, yet to make his debut. Their spin department shows a complete lack of experience. Liam Livingstone, who is often relied on as a part-time option, is the only spinner in the squad. They have promising players like Harsh Dubey, Zeeshan Ansari and Shivang Kumar but will be needing an experienced head to guide them. 7. Lucknow Super Giants Lucknow-Super-Giants. (Photo source: IPL) Lucknow Super Giants have gone through an overhaul and will be expected to change their fortunes for the season. They have an extensive pace battery with a plethora of quality domestic options. Avesh Khan, Prince Yadav, the returning Mohsin Khan and Mayank Yadav are joined by Mohammed Shami and South Africa’s Anrich Nortje to form an exciting unit of fast bowlers. The spin situation for LSG is dire. Wanindu Hasaranga’s fitness is still a concern, but despite this, they only have Digvesh Rathi, the pair of left-arm spinners Shahbaz Ahmed and M. Siddharth and the part-time off-spin of Aiden Markram. This is a team with both wealth and shortage, and getting their combinations right would be key for them. 6. Royal Challengers Bengaluru Royal Challengers Bengaluru. (Photo source: X/IPL) Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally lifted their maiden crown after an eighteen-year wait, due to the complementarity and performance of their bowling attack. They have retained the major core, but their situations and circumstances leave them in a bit of trouble. Josh Hazlewood is yet to be cleared after last playing in November, while Yash Dayal has been dropped from the squad, citing personal reasons. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar still exists as a beacon of experience, but their options outside him are dire. Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma were a spin duo who bowled successfully in tandem, but the backups are more inclined towards the all-rounder. Players like Kanishk Chauhan, Vihaan Malhotra, Mangesh Yadav and Vicky Otswal are great prospects, but their combined lack of experience is telling. 5. Delhi Capitals Delhi Capitals. (Photo Source - Twitter/x) Delhi Capitals will be looking to win their first trophy this season, and with a balanced bowling unit, they look like one of the better teams in the tournament. While Mitchell Starc is yet to arrive due to being rested by Cricket Australia for workload management, they have Lungi Ngidi, Dushmantha Chameera and Kyle Jamieson, reliable backups for the Australian quick. They splurged big money on Jammu and Kashmir star quick Auqib Nabi, who shone in their Ranji Trophy win and has highly improved his T20 bowling. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav form one of the most complimentary and potent spin duos, with Vipraj Nigam set to replicate his role as the third spinner. They have the part-time bowling of Stubbs to rely on, with backups like Ajay Mandal and Andhra prospect Tripurna Vijay. 4. Rajasthan Royals Rajasthan-Royals. (Photo source: X/IPL) The return of Ravindra Jadeja from the Chennai Super Kings was one of the stories of the season for the Rajasthan Royals. His return adds the much needed balance to their team, with his bowling adding to their spin stocks. They signed Ravi Bishnoi in the auction to balance out with Jadeja, and have in Vignesh Puthur and Karnataka’s Yash Raj Punja two brilliant prospects. If Rajasthan’s spin bowling is balanced, it is their pace battery that stands out. In Jofra Arncher they have a fierce attack leader, backed up by the complementary skills of Nandre Burger, Adam Milne, Tushar Deshpande, Sandeep Sharma and the hot South African prospect Kwena Maphaka. They have in their ranks Sushant Mishra, another prospect who was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali season. 3. Punjab Kings Punjab-Kings. (Photo source: IPL) Punjab Kings were just marginally short of the honours in 2025, and in 2026 they go in with the same core, with new faces as backups. They have an exciting pace battery, led by the dual left-arm seam of Marco Jansen and Arshdeep Singh. Lockie Ferguson, Azmatullah Omarzai and Vijaykumar Vyyshak are skilled options, with solid backups behind them in Xavier Bartlett, Ben Dwarshius and Yahs Thakur. While they are short on spin options, in Yuzvendra Chahal and Harpreet Brar, Punjab have a combination of attacking and defensive bowling. Chahal is the highest wicket-taker in the IPL and is expected to carry his form, with Harpreet being one of the better defensive bowlers in the tournament over the last few years through his left-arm orthodox. 2. Mumbai Indians Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. (Source:Hardik Pandya/Instagram) Mumbai Indians always have star-studded teams, and in 2026 their bowling contains big names who are expected to perform at the highest level. Even with no clarity over when the maverick Jasprit Bumrah is to join the team, in Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Corbin Bosch, Shardul Thakur, and captain Hardik Pandya himself, they have a skilled set of fast bowlers. Ashwani Kumar was reliable for them last season and keeps his place in the squad. Mitchell Santner leads what is an overseas-dominant spin attack, with England all-rounder Will Jacks, who is coming off a brilliant T20 World Cup, and Afghanistan’s exciting mystery spinner AM Ghazanfar. The returning Mayank Markande and Punjab’s Raghu Sharma add reliable Indian options, with Markande likened to start for the five-time champions. 1. Gujarat Titans Gujarat-Titans. (Photo source: IPL) Gujarat Titans have options. They have stacked their squad with very reliable starting-quality bowlers and backups in both pace and spin departments. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Kagiso Rabada are the attack leaders, with reliable backups in the form of Jason Holder, Ishant Sharma, Luke Wood, and young speedster Ashok Sharma, who was the joint-highest wicket-taker in SMAT 2025. Their options in the spin department are also plenty. Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore are to continue as lead spinners, with Washington Sundar and the evolved Glenn Phillips as off-spin options. They also have in their ranks the talented Manav Suthar, Nishant Sindhu and the experience of Jayant Yadav.
