In the 33rd match of the Indian Premier League 2024, five-time winners Mumbai Indians would be taking on Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. These two have played out some enthralling games in the past and the fans anticipate another great game between these two franchises.

Both of these teams have lost four out of the six games till now in this edition of the Indian Premier League. A win is a must for both the teams as they intend to climb up the league standings. The victory for either of these two teams can see them potentially in the top half of the points table if other results are in their favour.

Ahead of this crucial game between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, let’s take a look at the three active players who have represented both franchises this season.

IPL: 3 active players to play for both MI and PBKS in league history

3. Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla has had a great revival in the Indian Premier League through the impact player rule which was established last year. The leggie stayed with the Punjab Kings for a total of six years and was one of the key players for the side in their bowling attack. During this time, he was able to scalp 84 wickets for the franchise before he made the move to Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014.

The leg-spinner is currently playing in his 16th campaign in the Indian Premier League but has not been able to replicate his form of last year. He has just managed two wickets thus far in the competition and is bowling with a poor economy of 11.50. Mumbai Indians would be hoping to make the best use of the spinner in the upcoming away games.

2. Rahul Chahar

Mumbai Indians is a franchise known for identifying good talents over the years and their scouting system is touted to be among the best in the country. Rahul Chahar was one of the players that became a part of the franchise and was nurtured by the team management. He signed with the team in 2018 for INR 1.90 Crore and was part of the side for four years. The leg-spinner was a crucial part of the franchise in their consecutive title winning runs in 2019 and 2020.

Prior to the 2022 mega-auction, Chahar was not retained by the franchise, which is when PBKS bought his services for a whopping INR 5.25 Crores. However, the spinner has not been able to muster great performances till now for the franchise. The leggie had a great first season with the team, but over the past two years, he has failed.

1. Shikhar Dhawan

Veteran batter Shikhar Dhawan is currently the captain of the Punjab Kings. However, many people do not know that once upon a time the opener was part of the Mumbai Indians. He was traded to the franchise ahead of the 2009 season and played two campaigns for the franchise. The southpaw didn’t have a great time, as he could only manage 231 across 15 matches in his two years. Later, he represented Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals.

In 2022, Punjab Kings bought Shikhar Dhawan for INR 5.25 Crore and also found a leader in the southpaw. The ace batter has been a great leader till now for the franchise but has been unable to take them to the Playoffs thus far. His performances with the bat have been inconsistent of late, but the player is known to make strong comebacks and would be hoping for a great campaign this time around.
